Taking the Triumph out on the Trail
Exploring Sauvie Island on the Triumph Street Scrambler
It is hard to believe that after living in the Portland area for five years, this was my first time up to Sauvie Island. We cruised out on the Triumph, and crossed at the Sauvie Island Bridge, then headed out into the Wildlife Area. It was incredibly gorgeous, quiet, and relaxing. Each spot we stopped, I could have camped out with a picnic basket, the dog, and a good book, sketchpad, or company.
The Triumph Street Scrambler, enjoying the views at Sturgeon Lake.
Sturgeon Lake (viewed from the southwest area) had beautiful views of Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Adams. The banks were a bit muddy if bringing a dog to play, it was a thick clay-like material, but if you don’t mind them getting dirty there was a long trail along the water. It was also a great place to set-off for a kayak or paddle boarding adventure on the lake.
When we drove farther up Sauvie Island road, back into the Wildlife Area after passing rolling fields of farmland, with the mountains overlooking the entire scene, we found a great spot to relax along the Multnomah Channel. Surrounded by greenery and a nice little beach area, it was a great spot to cool off and enjoy some lunch.
Throughout the day, we saw a Great Blue Heron at Sturgeon Lake, a hawk in its nest along the drive, a Bald Eagle searching for food over a grassy field, cows chillin’ under a tree, horses in pastures, a coyote bounding through a meadow, hawks soaring over the river, dragonflies flitting about, and fish jumping in the water. We saw farmland vistas with Mt. Hood, Mt. St. Helens, and Mt. Adam in the distance, and quiet grasslands surrounded by trees.
This was our first time taking the new bike off-road together, and it was so much fun. The Triumph handled great on the dirt and gravel surfaces we cruised along. Having the off-road capabilities allowed us to check out some cool places that otherwise would have been hard to access, or at least not nearly as much fun in a car.
Happy Exploring,
