Early spring is a beautiful, exciting time. You can tap into the season’s naturally uplifting energy by taking notice of the early signs subtly creeping in. By using all your senses, regularly, you will gain a greater appreciation for the glorious changes that are occurring.
1. Take Time to Watch
Shake off winter’s hold by getting outside. Slow your pace and linger, allowing your curiosity to lead as you keep your eyes open for signs of spring. Return to different plants to enjoy watching the exquisite progress of flowers and leaves as they open and unfurl.
Can you see how the colors of trees and shrubs are changing? Look closely. The buds of all plant life are swelling, new shoots are forming, and things are coming back to life.
You will also begin to notice other animals returning, such as birds and insects emerging from leafy hideaways.
2. See with All Your Senses
Make an effort to awaken all your senses to notice nature’s subtle changes.
Close your eyes. Now, pay close attention. Can you feel the change in the air on your face? Notice how it softens through the days of spring as the temperature warms.
Stick your nose in all manner of things. Breathe deeply. Enjoy the emerging scents, rich and floral.
Listen to the birds. Who are the ones just returning from a winter away? Listen for the varying bird songs, are they singing songs of joy and romance or squabbling over mates and territories?
Most of all, enjoy the delicate prelude to summer’s vibrant symphony of aliveness.
3. Hunt for Signs of Spring
Part of the joy of this time of year comes from choosing to pay attention to the things that are growing. What can be weeded out of your life that you no longer need? What is growing inside you that you want to tend to lovingly? Watching nature can help all of us tap into the rejuvenating energy of spring.
To get you started, I’ve created a Signs of Spring Scavenger Hunt. This is just a launching place, use it to spark your curiosity and begin your own explorations.
May your spring be joyful and bright,
~Lexie
